Taurus New Moon: Ground and Lift Your Spirits

There's a welcoming feeling with a Taurus new moon, especially when you think about the rays of Venus accompanying it with a love for art, beauty, life's luxuries and all things comforting in the material world. While the world around you spins and shifts non-stop in many unsettling ways, this moon arrives like a warm hand placed gently on your shoulder, reminding you, as I often say on my Youtube channel, that the earth is still beneath your feet. That you are still here. That beauty is still available to you. That beauty can shine through you!

On May 16, 2026, the new moon in Taurus offers a time-out when the Universe nudges you to consider how your daily life can become mre sensory, embodied and pleasure-seeking. In a time when upheaval has become the unwanted norm, this new moon is not just an astrological event shifting us into a softer, slower, more indulgent gear, it's a lovely invitation from the cosmos to do just that.

When the sun and moon meet in Taurus, it's great to plan for the future and set goals, but you don't have to push too fast or try to fix anything. Taurus asks you to slow down and notice what's around you. This energy prompts you to want things for yourself that are soft and real and yours for the long haul. It highlights the saying, "Slow and steady wins the race!"

In this social, economic and political season of collective uncertainty, choosing to root yourself in sensory pleasure and personal values is actually one of the most practical and grounding things you can do. Taurus teaches us that stability isn't something that exists out there in the world waiting to be granted to us. It's something we build from the inside-out through our relationship with our own values, our own bodies, and what we decide we truly want to create.

Whatever has been feeling chaotic or uncertain in your life, this new moon is asking you to come back to what is solid. Your values. Your sensory experience. The things you want to call into your life that are beautiful, sustainable, and truly yours.

Tarot and the Taurus New Moon: Three Cards to Sit With During This Lunation

When I sit with the energy of this new moon and reach for the tarot, three cards come to mind immediately. Each one speaks to a different layer of what's available to us right now, and together they form something like a roadmap for navigating this lunation with grace.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant is the major arcana card most directly associated with Taurus, and I know that for some of us, this card has complicated feelings attached to it. The Hierophant can look like rigid institutions, traditional structures, rules we didn't choose. But under this new moon, the Hierophant invites you to return to your own inner traditions. What practices have always brought you back to yourself? What rituals, rhythms, or beliefs feel like coming home? The Hierophant asks you to honor what is genuinely sacred to you, not what you've been told should be sacred, but what actually lights something alive in your chest when you return to it.

The Star

The Star is Venus at her most ethereal yet earthy incarnation. She is the reminder that renewal is always possible and that hope is not naivety or pie in the sky positivism. The Star teaches that even after everything has changed, something in you knows how to orient toward beauty and light the way a plant turns toward the sun. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. The Star's gifts are quiet and consistent. She just keeps pouring toward the future while remaining grounded in the present.

Under this Taurus new moon, the Star is a great reminder that your dreams are still valid -- and its okay if you need to hit reset and create again. The things you want to manifest, the life you want to build, the creative work you want to bring forward, none of that has an expiration date. You are allowed to begin again. You are allowed to hope. You are allowed to plant seeds in uncertain soil and believe they will grow. New moon wishes, yes. But totally within your power to manifest into reality!

The Magician

Throughout 2026 (which reduces to the number "1" in numerology when added together), the Magician has been and will be hard at work to help us imagine, create and activate our desires.

The Magician stands at an altar with all four elements at his disposal: the wand, the cup, the sword, the pentacle. He has everything he needs. He lifts one hand toward the heavens and points the other toward the earth, channeling divine energy into material reality. His message is both simple and electric: you have everything you need to begin. He reminds us to be resourceful with whatever we already have.

In the context of this Taurus new moon, the Magician feels like the creative force that Venus herself carries. He is the artist who knows that inspiration without action is just daydreaming, but that action without inspiration is just labor. He brings both together. He is the part of you that looks at what you have, your skills, your resources, your desires, your time, and says, I can work with this. I can make something from this. I've got this!!

This new moon is asking you to be the Magician in your own life knowing that you don't have to wait for easier times or perfect conditions. You are ready despite whatever is happening in the world that seems to support or impede your goals. Assess what you know, your skills, your material world and your desires, then use what you have to create an energy field of what you want.

Journaling Prompts for the Taurus New Moon

Find a quiet moment before or on May 16th and the next 3 days afterward while the New Moon is strong. Make it sensory if you can, light a candle, brew something warm, step outside if the air feels good on your skin. Let yourself arrive in your body before you begin writing. Then let these prompts take you wherever they want to go.

--What does stability actually feel like to me in my body? Not what I think it should feel like, but what it genuinely feels like when I am grounded and at peace.

--Where in my life have I been neglecting beauty? Where have I been treating pleasure as something I need to earn rather than something I deserve?

--What creative project, dream, or desire has been waiting patiently in the back of my mind, hoping I'll finally take it seriously?

--What values feel most like home to me right now? If I built my next chapter entirely around those values, what would that chapter look like?

--Where have I let external chaos override my inner knowing? What does my inner knowing actually want me to know?

--What one small, sensory act of creation can I commit to over the next two weeks? Something that would feel nourishing to make, not just useful, but genuinely nourishing.

A Simple Ritual for the Taurus New Moon

This ritual doesn't require anything elaborate. What matters is your gentle yet clear focus, presence and unwavering (the Bull!) intention.

Choose a physical space that feels beautiful to you, or make your space beautiful. Fresh flowers are wonderful for a Taurus ritual. So is anything green and growing, natural beeswax candles, rose or sandalwood incense, a bowl of fruit, a piece of rose quartz or malachite if you have one. The key is that your senses are engaged and you feel genuinely at ease.

Sit quietly for a few minutes and breathe into your body. Feel the weight of yourself, the solidity of the earth beneath you. This is Taurus energy. This groundedness is the beginning. Try "box breathing" if you're comfortable with that -- using the 4-4-4 or 4-6-8 counts (ex. inhale for a count of 4; hold for 4; exhale for 4).

Write your intentions on a small piece of paper. Keep them rooted in what you genuinely want to build, create, or call into your material life. Taurus new moon intentions love to be tangible. Instead of saying, "I want to feel more creative," try "I am creating space in my life every week for the creative work that lights me up." Feel the difference? One is broad and a little generic while the other "hits the mark!"

Hold the paper between your palms and close your eyes. Breathe. Feel the intention as if it's already becoming real, as if the seed is already in the ground. Stay there as long as you want to. This is a litte like "quantum leaping" -- putting yourself into an energetic field of living in it already versus a future projection or desire.

When you're ready, keep the paper somewhere meaningful, tucked into your journal, placed beneath a crystal, folded into a small envelope and sealed with a bit of candle wax. Let it be a physical object that holds your intention in the material world, which is exactly where Taurus wants it to live.

Over the next two weeks, do one small thing each day that honors what you've asked for. Taurus knows that manifesting isn't a magic trick. It's a practice of consistent, loving attention. The Hierophant honors that, the Star practices it, and the Magician speaks it into existence while enjoying what already is.

Plant your seeds on May 16th. Water them with intention and patience and pleasure. Trust that the earth, this generous, Venus-kissed Taurus earth, knows how to hold them.

All my best to you!! -- Afefe
